The Holy Family with John the Baptist

The picture follows the post-Tridentine imagery in which Joseph is a man in vigorous middle age, illuminated nearly as fully as Mary and the baby. The angel bringing Mary the chaplet of flowers is an unusual detail, as is the unidentified young woman in the background.
